There's quite a lot to say since my last post. Firstly, for my second year as a Junior I've joined Spokes Racing Team having had a great time in my first year racing with a fantastic bunch of team mates at Team JRC. I want to thank James, Claire and everyone at Team JRC and wish all the team at the newly merged JRC Shutt Ridley well for 2020.
Secondly I'm really pleased to be accepted for Pedal Potential funding for the 2020 racing season. http://www.pedalpotential.co.uk/Index.html
Pedal Potential support young athletes with a passion for cycling realise their potential. A huge thanks to Mark and the team at Pedal Potential for supporting me in 2020.
I'm really looking forward to racing for Spokes Racing Team this year, it's a great Junior team with a domestic and international race calendar and I had the chance to guest ride last year a couple of times so to be a member of the team for 2020 is a great opportunity.
Back in November I went up to Harrogate for pre winter testing with my Vitfor coach, Huw Spacey, and Performance Director, Craig Stevenson. Going in to the session I was pretty nervous having had 6 weeks of low volume training after my final event of the year at Monsal Hill Climb. Both Huw and Craig told me not to worry as they expected my form and fitness to have dropped off a bit and this was only a baseline to set my winter programme. Fortunately it went well, probably thanks to Craig's standard never ending 10 second countdown.
Testing done, I've been following the plan set for me by Huw and have had a really good winters training .
Over the winter I've also been attending monthly training camps in Scotland with the team which have been great chance to meet my new team mates and train in the best weather Scotland has to offer. You know its been a good weekend when you wear out a brand new set of brake blocks in a weekend.
I've started this year doing a couple of regional circuit races at Croft Velo 29 and ARCC Yorkshire Series at Leeds picking up a 5th and a 4th, it was good to start racing again.
After the Velo 29 race I also went to a Tom Simpson talk by Chris Sidwells which was excellent and I'm really grateful to continue to be supported by the Tom Simpson Memorial Fund again in 2020.
My first big race of the season is on 1st March racing Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne in Belgium, guesting with HMT which I am really looking forward to but first I have the small matter of my A level mocks at the end of Feb to get through before we set off.
In February, we had the Spokes Racing Team launch and presentation which was a great night with a couple of presenters who gave us the some idea of what it was like to be professional riders and what it takes to win.
It was great to meet and talk to Brian Smith from Eurosport at the Team launch and get some very valuable advice and help.
Next post will be in March with an update of K-B-K and the first junior national at Hatherleigh.
